What is going on lately?
I have been a bit quiet lately, there were a lot of things I had to do IRL.
I visited my family for a few days on easter and it took a day to “recover” from it, it was a good time but very exhausting.
I’ve been trying to bring back my kanji lessons schedule under control (spaced repetition can get pretty wild if you stop following it for a few days) and that means that I’ve spent a lot of days essentially studying most of the day.
And after that there was a lot of long long overdue spring cleaning, trying to make my tiny apartment a liveable space again. To be honest, this is something I should not have allowed to accumulate, but you never really pay attention to it until after the facts. At least I did not wait until summer for this.
With my place now in a somewhat liveable state, I’ve been experimenting with VR a little. Room-scale is certainly a challenge when you live in a place that isn’t much bigger than some people’s walk-in closet. I’m not leaving SL don’t worry, this is mostly an opportunity to spend less time in a chair and be a little more “active”.
I did put down some work for KDC still. Since the change to the keyless padlock, I wanted to rewrite the fingerprint padlock, to essentially provide the same features it does currently, but better and clearer. Those that hang out in the KDC Mailing List Group probably saw me talk about it.
The real actual “change” is the addition of a built-in way to erase a fingerprint padlock without having to reset the script. People already would reset them all the time, why not spare them the trouble. Everything else is more focused on trying to make the way they lock and unlock as transparent as possible.
The other thing I want to do with it is fixing some of the problems the original texture had. I was under time constraints back then and did not take the time to really finish it up the way I should have.
And maybe make a couple more colors, so long as it remains visually different from the keyless model.
Merry X-Mas to everyone!
I will be away for a few days to spend some time with family members that I haven’t seen for a long time, specifically my mother and father. Don’t worry about me, I will take all the precautions that the pandemic requires and there won’t be too many people there.
Don’t forget to have a little bit of fun all of you out there ^_^.
Be safe!
EEP is on Firestorm!
If you haven’t seen it yet, EEP is finally available on Firestorm 6.4.12!
I invite you to check out Inara’s blog where she has a nice breakdown of all the cool new features that this update brings.
I’ve finally installed my custom-spooky EEP setting at the KDC Main Store and adjusted most of the lighting to take in account the new ambience brought by EEP.
Come check it out and then slide into my IMs to tell me how horrible it is 😛
(Note: the undercity need a complete re-lighting and I haven’t gotten around doing that yet, bring your own flashlight if you wander in there)
Only a few hours left for the Halloween specials!
Once the 15th rolls out, it is all going away for another year 😀
On the Marketplace and also in-world at the KDC Main Store.
LockMeister plugin for AVsitter2
I’m surprised, with all the documentations I have for LockMeister on the lsl wiki that no one ported the example code to AVsitter already.
If you are already familiar with the lockguard plugin, configuring this one should be almost identical.
Github PR (It might end up merged/closed but I don’t know how long that’s gonna take)
Hello 2020, I’m back!
This was such a rough week… but I think I’m mostly cured now.
Now… back to work!
Happy new year everyone :)
My wishes of happiness go to you all of you out there ^_^
Lock cutting workbench.
This is something I’ve been meaning to add to the store for a long time, there is now a lock-cutting workbench at the Main KDC Store. While I haven’t really seen anyone abuse the system, this is now available for those who want/need it.
It’s not for sale (but it’s free to use duh) and it’s an experiment, more than anything, it uses a feature that has been part of the system for many years now, but there was no real way to use it without my assistance until now.
I’m open to feedback on whether this is a good idea or not. In the meantime, consider it a relatively lame X-max gift 😛
Goodbye Halloween! See you next year!
If you didn’t get this year’s specials… Well there is always next year ^_^.
Bake on mesh is live!
For those who do not know, bake-on-mesh is a hybrid solution to improve the flexibility of mesh bodies & garments through the original “system clothes” baking system.
It has some great potential for making mesh bodies much easier on the viewer by making “alpha cuts” and “clothing layers” obsolete.
This is a quick little video of little ol’ me experimenting with a composite skin on my M4 Venus head:
- Base skin.
- Lipstick (which can be tinted any color of the rainbow)
- Facial scar.
All being separate layers that get composed as a single unique texture before being applied to my mesh head.
Linden Lab has finally released this feature officially in their viewer, alternatively, several third-party viewers already have it in their source tree if you can compile the code yourself (this is not a simple task!).
Otherwise, just sit tight! It shouldn’t take too long before it becomes available for your favourite viewer!
