Thank you LindenLabs for fixing my stuff
The last post was a bit… on edge, I want to thank the support team for processing my rollback this fast.
Thank you LindenLabs for breaking my stuff.
I had to setup a backup update server in emergency because apparently my region ate the regular one.
I requested a region rollback from Linden Labs, please tell me if anything iffy happens.
Apologies for the delay on the new catsuits.
I’m sorry to everyone waiting for the new catsuits. I know, the weeks are slowly piling up and beside the face slapper that I made for valentine day, still no catsuits. To explain why it’s taking so long I’m going to sum up, point by point:
The catsuit textures have several options beyond the usual color choice:
- 14 colors like all the KDC latex.
- You can choose if you want metallic looking zips or more discrete plastic ones that closely match the latex color.
- You can choose between 3 “entry” styles for the main zip: front to back, back to front, and shoulder entry.
- You can have it with or without breast zips.
That’s a grand total of 270 textures total that I had to make, which took the bulk of the time.
Now I thought I was done, basically last Thursday, but now I also have to make all the layers in SL, by color that’s a total of 72 clothing “pieces” for each color, for a total of 1008. Since I can’t really automate this, that’s 1008 garments I have to edit, put textures in and save, not only is it absolutely mind numbing, but I have to double-check I didn’t make any errors.
I’m not even sure how I’m going to package this in a clean and easy way for you all.
I was thinking that I could release the suits in 3 formats:
- Basic: Contain a single set of options, most likely Front to back, non metallic, no breast zips.
- Deluxe: Contains everything for a given color.
- Complete: Contains everything colors, every variations.
I’m open to suggestions, please tell me what you want, I hope this gave everyone an insight in what I have been going through 🙂
The art of wasting time.
I’ve put the coding on the side for a bit. Since Monday I’ve been working on cleaning up my latex production chain. The main reason being that I would like to return to clothes production. I’m especially subject to burnout, so being able to switch to another project for a while would be beneficial.
Monday and Tuesday have been pretty full, but i kept scraping over and over my cleanup attempts on the SL avatar model I’m using. So that’s two days wasted at starting over and over.
For years I’ve been using a ruth shape to do ray tracing. Obviously you can already see a problem there.:I do not look like Ruth, and neither does most SL users. Because of this, I’m now building my toolchain around my own SL shape and skin. This way, what I see in my preview window will actually match what I will get.
It is now Wednesday evening and the different 3D models are ready for work. I still need to do a few tweaks on the “detail” model and finish converting the workspace to metric values, instead of “made up on the spot”.
I would love to include a few screenshots, but there really isn’t much to show.
Vendors temporarly offline
That will teach me to meddle with things i don’t understand.
I tried to use a special .htaccess on my website which would redirect people that use kyrahabattoir.com. But it also knocked out my vendor network and all my web services for about a day -_-.
It should return to normal when the vendors self reset in about 30 minutes.
I’m an idiot sometimes ^_^.
The current state of my internet access
I thought i would post this, for fun, so whoever is reading me can have a little idea of what’s going on.
Explanation: this is my ping time for google taken every 5 minutes, the green bars are packet losses. the blue is the average ping time.
- If the ping time goes to 0, that’s bad it means during this period i had no connectivity.
- If the ping goes up, it’s bad, because it means my connection took ages to connect to something as trivial as google.
- If the packet loss goes up it’s terrible, because it means my connection is actually losing information, which have to be sent again.
The long period from 11pm to 2 pm is a period where i was either sleeping or away, so … low activity, less data to fuck up. The rightmost period from 1 to 5 am is basically “now” and it’s all jittery because I restarted a few traffic heavy services to see how it would behave under a semi regular load. And well, this is the result. it’s BAD.
I have DSL problems
For those who care, my DSL connection has been acting up for the past 2-3 weeks, as a result I’m not very active, it’s difficult to work in SL when your connection drop about ten times a day.
I hope that I can get this solved quickly.
On and Off
There was a storm 1-2 days ago and since then i’m having connectivity issues, either my ISP’s equipment has been hit, or my DSL model took a mortal wounding, i hope this will get solved fairly quickly, i have stuffs to do!
It’s formatting time
I just got a brand new SSD drive to soup up a little my (slowly) aging computer, it will take me a little while to “recover” so I might be unavailable for a day or two.
In one instant, something got very , very wrong…
Maybe some of you noticed but my blog, vendors, etc… stopped working for a comple of days. Today i’m going to tell you what exactly happened:
Sunday evening, June 13:
I Decided after a classic kernel upgrade that i had to reboot the ethernia server briefly, I warned everybody on voice chat, it was supposed to take only a minute or so.
What happened? I’m not entirely sure, somehow in the last 15 days i “broke” something in the system, or maybe it simply was a bad kernel config? To this day i don’t know and i probably will never know. Read the rest of this entry »
